Halloween Photography Class, Swan Point Cemetery, 10/6, 3-7
Established in 1846 and listed on the National Register of Historic Sites, Swan Point Cemetery is one of the most notable garden cemeteries in the United States. The 200-acre grounds feature serene walking paths and monuments throughout. A few of the notable persons buried at Swan Point are H.P. Lovecraft, one of the most prominent horror writers of the 20th century; Elizabeth Buffum Chace, daughter of abolitionist Arnold Buffum, a suffragist whose home was one of Rhode Island's documented stops on the underground railroad; Ambrose Burnside, a Union General in the Civil War who also served as a U.S. Senator and Rhode Island Governor; and Helen Adelia Rowe Metcalf, founder of the Rhode Island School of Design.
Cemeteries are a great place to practice your photography skills. During this class, I will go over some of the basics of perspective, framing, lighting and exposing, then we will walk around and allow our imaginations to wander. I will provide one-on-one feedback and guidance. We will stop only for a wine and cheese break!
